What is not covered by my credit insurance policy?

Skrevet af Lasse Henriksen | jun. 24, 2023

The general principle of credit insurance is that we will insure your whole turnover. However, we like to offer our customers flexibility. So, when setting up your policy, you may opt to exclude certain parts of your business from the cover (for example, you may choose to only insure your domestic business, or only cover your export business)

If we are unable to offer cover for any part of your portfolio we will always explain why, as we understand this information can be as valuable for your own trading decisions as the credit insurance itself.

You will only be covered for customers with an agreed credit limit

Credit limits can be agreed in several ways:

  • A written credit limit decision made following an assessment of your customer by an Atradius underwriter
  • A simple credit check where we give you an instant yes or no decision to a level that is pre-defined in your policy
  • A discretionary credit limit (DCL) you apply yourself. This is up to the maximum level of credit you can approve for a customer, as pre-defined in the policy, without needing to request a credit decision from us

You will not be covered for customers we think are too risky

It’s our job to keep your trade (and ours) safe. If we think there is a high risk of payment default, we may want to exclude individual businesses from cover. If these include your customers or prospects, we’ll let you know, and we will explain why. If you disagree, tell us as we always prefer to work closely with our customers and see real value in sharing information.

  • Countries - we sometimes list certain markets as ‘off cover”.  You can discuss individual markets and specific businesses in more detail with your customer success manager. But for an overview of the latest country risk levels, you can see the Atradius Country Risk Map
  • Policy exclusions - you may have specific exclusions written into your policy. These vary according to individual situations
  • Customer exclusions – we may decline to cover specific buyers, these are your customers, because the company has poor creditworthiness; we will provide an explanation if we provide a zero decision
